Personality: Laica is a purple Hawke. When feeling awkward or vulnerable, she has a tendency to deflect with truly tasteless attempts at humor. At this point in her life she's a little more mature than during DA2, but her old habits sometimes slip in. Since becoming Viscountess and getting engaged to Prince Sebastian, she has started putting on airs in a big way. She has a very practiced posh accent, and works at behaving in a way that she thinks is elegant. When tired or stressed, her true farm girl background can slip out in mannerisms and accent.
She tries very hard to do the right thing and to help people around her. Unfortunately, she's not very smart and so what she thinks is best for people frequently is not. She has a tendency to not consider possible outcomes to her decisions other than what is desired. She is a devout Andrastian and has a conservative outlook on life, that if people just do what they're supposed to do then everything will be fine. And by "fine" she means "generally quiet, and like everything was before the Blight". The fact that other people might not have liked life before the Blight, and behaving the way an oppressive society expects them to behave is not a peaceful existence, is one she has trouble understanding. The fact that she herself has been living as an apostate mage her entire life, and therefore is not doing what she's supposed to do according to the rules of society, leads to a cognitive dissonance that sometimes can send her into a mental tailspin. Generally she does her best to keep these episodes of existential despair to herself, and relies on what she calls "princess face" to mechanically go through the motions until she can retreat until she recovers.
She is extremely resilient, and has rebuilt her life from the ground up more than once. Sometimes she has lost everything due to her own poor choices, other times through circumstances entirely outside of her control. Either way she refuses to wallow, and continues on no matter what. She has lost her father, her mother, and her sister in a variety of heartbreaking, often violent, ways. Her relationship with her brother and uncle is strained. Still she soldiers on, and does her best to keep her spirits up. She has an open heart and trusts easily, something that has gotten her into a lot of trouble in the past. Even when she does something truly heinous, it can be hard for her friends to stay angry with her for long, as she is always sincerely trying her best, and doesn't complain about having to make terrible decisions that are really beyond her ken.
Appearance: pb Imogen Poots, but is about 5'10" tall
How Do You Think They'll React to Being In Parthas?Initially she'll believe it's some weird thing happening in the Fade. Eventually she will understand it's an actual place somewhere that is not Thedas. This will make her feel obligated to go home to continue the mission she was on, but she won't be in a huge hurry because living in a cave with Warden Loghain is kind of a drag.
Sample(s)?TDM TL
Anything Else? Laica is a mage. Her specializations are in spirit healing and elemental magic. She has a handful of abilities in other magical skills but she rarely uses them as she's not very comfortable with it. Spirit healing is the act of channeling a spirit of the fade to make the mage's magical healing powers more powerful. Her experience is largely as a field medic/first aid/EMT kind of field. She can heal most cuts, contusions, concussions, crushing injuries, bleeding injuries, etc. She can rejuvenate or revive if the person is exhausted or suffered a recent heart stoppage (like CPR). She cannot revive somebody who's been dead more than a few minutes. If she is trying to revive somebody who died due to injury, she first has to heal the injuries that killed them or risk them dying again immediately. This can result in a person being too injured for her to save. She can treat some infections, cancers, etc. but her experience with those areas of medicine are limited and her abilities are not as strong.
The elemental magic she wields is fire and ice. She uses these for combat. These powers are very straightforward, and she has to be careful with fire because it can burn out of control after she casts the spell. She has both direct attacks and area of effect attacks with these abilities. She doesn't like to use them, though, as she does not like to fight, and is happier when she can just serve as a medic.
The other magic she will do with some kind of regularity is conjuring wisps, which is just a source of light when she needs it that eventually fade. And mind blast, which is a concussive wave that pushes people away from her. Mind blast is largely a reflex action when she's feeling cornered. It shoves people away a few feet, and can leave them a little dizzy or knock them down but is not a particularly powerful spell.
When she arrives, she is wearing a full suit of mage armor, which is a lightweight armor that protects from magic-nullifying effects, and offers some protection against physical attacks. She also carries a magical staff. The staff itself has no inherent abilities, but can serve as a focus and amplifier for her magic. She also has a knife hidden in her clothes for stabbing reasons.
